ICRC provides pre-deployment training to Fijian prison staff bound for South Sudan

Corrections Commissioner Commander Francis Kean said: "The Fiji Correctional Service has been supporting the UN mission in South Sudan by deploying its officers since 2010. Through these deployments, the Correctional Service of Fiji fulfills its role in contributing to peace and stability overseas, while providing its officers with international exposure and experience that will enable them to better perform their duties in Fiji upon their return." Commander Kean expressed his gratitude to the ICRC for quickly following up on the Fiji Prison Service's request to provide this training.

For the head of the ICRC's regional delegation, Vincent Ochilet, who once worked as an ICRC delegate in South Sudan, "Fijian prison officers will live and work in a very different context than the one they are used to. We hope that the briefing "This training is part of the ongoing commitment between the ICRC and the Fiji Prison Service to strengthen the capacities of Fijian prison staff."
