The International Maritime Organization (IMO) reported that 115 ships carrying approximately 2500 crew members left the Gulf during the first three and a half days of the operation. This is the first concrete figure available regarding the evacuation launched this week to rescue some 11.000 seafarers trapped aboard 600 vessels since the outbreak of the Gulf War.
The death toll from the earthquakes in northern Venezuela has risen to 920, and the number of injured has reached 3360. The first international search and rescue teams have arrived in the country and are joining local rescuers and residents who are desperately trying to free those trapped.
